Everyone has a routine that's unique to them. Some people enjoy the three S's which mean to "poop", shower, and shave. Other people shave during or before their showers and technically there's nothing wrong with any of your routines.
However, is it better to shave before or after a shower? There is an answer to this question and there is one way of shaving that's superior to all the rest.
Shaving Your Face
When it comes to shaving your facial whiskers it's best to shave after taking a shower. If you're seeking the best environment to shave in and want to reduce your risk of shaving related issues such as razor burn, skin irritation, etc. you should shave after your shower.
Showering first does several positive things for you. One of thing strongest benefits it provides is warming and relaxing the skin. This opens your pores and loosens hair follicles. It sets the environment for an excellent shave.
When your hair follicles are warm and relaxed it "weakens" the hairs and your facial hair is easier to cut. This helps your razor glide across the skin and cut your whiskers without causing any tugging.
The more important thing to do is to shave immediately after taking your shower. You want to shave while the environment is still right. If you wait to long to shave then you lose the benefits you would of had.
Advantages of Dry Shaving
Even though shaving after your shower has the most benefits you shouldn't disregard dry shaving. Of course you're not going to dry shave with your razor but owning a good electric shaver can do a lot to improve your overall shave routine.
Sometimes you don't have the time to wet shave. It takes a lot of time and effort and sometimes you're going to be in a rush and not have the time to shave. This is where owning an electric shaver comes in handy.
I've reviewed several great electric shavers that you can take a look at if you don't own one. Electric shavers aren't only quick and convenient when you're running low on time. There are advantages for your skin as well.
Electric shavers allow you to give your skin a break from running direct razor contact over it. If you have sensitive skin these shavers can be your best friend. It's important to go a day or two without shaving every now and then. If your life requires you to shave then an electric shave is the best alternative.
What About Shaving During Your Shower?
You can shave during your shower and have the same benefits as shaving right after. You'll need a good anti-fog mirror to make it work though. Also you should shave at the end of your shaving routine so that your skin has had time to become relaxed and your hair follicles have had time to loosen.
The upside of shaving in the shower is it's less messy. You've got everything you need in the shower and the mess can go right down the drain. It's quite convenient.
If you choose to shave during your shower just don't leave your razor in the shower. It's something a lot of people are guilty of. Leaving your razor in the shower makes it dull much quicker and this can open you up to possible bacterial infections.
A small cut from shaving is more likely to become infected if you're using a razor you've left in the shower. Rust can grow on the razor when you let it air dry in the shower. So for general health purposes make sure to take your razor with you when you leave the shower.
Also pat your razor dry with your towel and store it in a dry location. Not only is this better hygiene but it's going to extend the life of your razor.
Shaving Your Body
When you're body grooming is it better to shave before or after a shower? It's actually best to shave during your shower for body hair. There's also less to worry about when shaving body hair because it's different and not has thick as your facial hair.
You could shave your body at the beginning of your shower routine or towards the end. Either way it's not going to make a difference for body grooming.
The one thing that does still apply is using a razor and not leaving it in the shower. Always take your shaver with you after your shower.
Before You Go!
So is it better to shave before or after a shower? It's really just best to shave either after or during your shower for the most benefits. There's no real benefit to shaving before taking a shower.
