When I decided to look into this electric shaver I looked at all other Panasonic ESLA63S reviews and they just don't do a real review. Instead they regurgitate standard stats only. While I'll make sure you know the stats I want you to know if this shaver is a good fit for you.
Our goal is to help you understand the characteristics of the Panasonic ES-LA63-S. You will leave this review knowing if foil shavers are for you and if you're the type of person who could benefit from a higher end electric shaver such as this.
Is A Foil Shaver The Right Choice?
This is the biggest factor why some shavers get negative reviews. Some people are better suited for a rotary shaver instead of a foil shaver. It all comes down what kind of facial hair you have.
Take a moment and assess your facial hair to determine if this foil shaver is going to do you justice. Is your facial hair more straight or curly? Is it very thick or lean towards a thinner side? Lastly, is your hair growth pattern in a straight'ish direction or more circular?
Unfortunately someone who should be using a foil shaver may buy a rotary shaver and then wonder why it isn't very effective. They may leave a negative review of the rotary shaver letting people know it isn't any good when they should have been using a foil shaver the whole time.
So, hopefully I can prevent you from falling into a similar situation. If you were to tick the boxes below which option do you side with the most?
If you lined up with the Foil Shaver box then then Panasonic ESLA63S on Amazon will be great for you. If not and you lined up more in the rotary shaver box then you should check out our rotary shaver article.

The Panasonic Arc 4 on Amazon comes with a protective case for the head, leather carrying case, and charging cable. There's also an option to get this electric shaver with additional replacement blades.
The Panasonic ESLA63S is an excellent mid-high end electric shaver. It gives you what you need in the shaving department without some of the flashy bells and whistles other shavers have but don't need. For example the cleaning station base the Braun Series 9 has. As long as you clean your shaver normally you can save yourself a lot of money.
How's it shave & feel?
The Panasonic Arc 4 delivers a really close shave for an electric shaver. You likely know that you can't expect an electric shaver to deliver the same results as a safety razor. It's more about quickness and convenience.
However, this shaver is pushing the limits. It delivers a shave so close that it's in the top tier of shave smoothness for electric shavers. One of the reasons this is an award winning shaver.
Externally the shaver has a nice weight to it. The weight makes it feel like a high quality body and the head feels sturdy. If you've ever picked up an electric shaver and immediately could tell how cheaply it was made you won't have that experience here.
How often should you replace the blades?
A great thing about electric shavers is you don't have to replace the blades very often. Typically the manufacturer will inform you how often to replace your blades in the box but a good rule of thumb is to replace the blades every 12 months.
Comparing this to your everyday cartridge razor it's a way more convenient way to shave. It's also a much cheaper way to shave in the long run. However, if you're goal is saving money then you should look into safety razors.
Should you go for the cleaning station?
You've likely seen some other electric shavers that have this large cleaning station. While these are great they aren't necessary. I wouldn't make my decision on electric shaver based off the cleaning station.
Instead just clean your electric shaver after each and every use. It doesn't take much time and will save you money. Plus the Panasonic ESLA63S can be put directly under the running sink water and is cleaned quite easily.
Can you use shaving cream?
If you're a shaving cream fan and don't want to leave it behind you'll be happy to know you can use shaving cream with the Panasonic Arc 4. I personally don't enjoy wet shaving with an electric shaver but you may really like it.
I don't recommend using your electric shaver in the shower but getting the head a little wet while wet shaving with shaving cream is fine. It's a middle ground between razor blade shaving and electric shaving.
If you choose to use shaving cream my recommendation would be to use it lightly. Use much less than you would with your cartridge razor. You may also want to swap to a shave oil instead of cream. If you've never experienced shaving oil it's surprisingly good.
Features and Stats
There are several features that make the Arc 4 the Arc 4. I'll give you the summarized version of these features so you know what's what without boring you.
The Arc Shaving System
The foil shaving system on the Arc 4 cut at a 30 degree angle to give you a super close shave. Everything is stainless steel and it's designed to lift your hairs before cutting them. This sort of precision shave is something other Panasonic ESLA63S reviews fail to address.
This blade design results in a very close shave that doesn't lack in comfort. You'll get a good shave that's also gentle on even the most sensitive of skin.
Flexible Pivoting Head
Is your neck and curve of the jawline a problem area for you when you're shaving? This electric shaver has a pivoting head with a ride range of motion to move with your curves.
This helps the foils contour with your face and shave areas such as your chin, jawline, and neck easily. There's also a built in precision trimmer on the head of the Arc 4. This can be used for trimming sideburns, mustaches, and lining up facial hair if needed.
30 Degree Nanotech Blades
The Panasonic Arc4 has blades honed to a 30 degree angle to cut at the base root of your facial hair. These acute blades will give you a close shave like no other electric shaver.
If you have sensitive skin don't worry. The blades are hypoallergenic and the foils provide comfort and protection from any nicks or cuts.
Wet or Dry Shave
You can shave in the shower or over the sink because this electric shaver doesn't mind getting wet. It makes it easier to clean and easier to shave. If you're in a hurry a dry shave is just as good.
Personally I don't like to wet shave with an electric shaver but to each their own. If you like it then it can handle it.
With the powerful and quiet motor in the Arc 4 you'll experience a smooth shave every time. The motor hits 14,000 cycles per minute which operates 1.5 times faster with twice the cutting force.
Slit Foil Coverage
The slit foil structure will easily catch long hairs. The vibrations help lift ad hold the hair follicle for the closest shave possible.
The Panasonic Arc 4 maintains its performance no matter the battery life. Instead of weakening as the battery gets low the shaver will maintain full power until it has run out of juice.
This way you always have a powerful smooth shave all the way through. Nothing worse than a low battery causing hair tugging and pulling.
If you take a quick look on Amazon at the verified purchases it's an overwhelming positive response. The overall rating is really good and there's thousands of total reviews. I mentioned earlier that not everyone should use a foil shaver because some people are better suited for rotary.
When I look at the few negative reviews there are I get the feeling these people should have used a rotary shaver.
Panasonic ES-LT41-K Arc3 - The Arc 3 is the earlier version of the Panasonic ESLA63S Arc 4. If you're on a budget and want to save some money you'll want to give this electric shaver a good look. It has a lot of the features of the Arc 4 and is a very viable option.
You will miss out on the dual motor cutting system in the Arc 4 but if you're main focus is dry shaving and you just need an electric shaver to use when you're in a rush or don't have time for a normal shave, this will make an excellent option.
Panasonic ES-LA93-K Arc 4 - This is a slight upgrade to the other Arc 4. If you're someone who prefers a maintenance free lifestyle then you may want to opt for this version. This Arc 4 comes with a cleaning station that both cleans and charges your electric shaver.
All other features are pretty much the same as the other Arc 4. You're just paying to get the cleaning station with your shaver. So you know it's a good shaver but you'll just have to decide between cleaning it yourself or a hands off solution.
Panasonic ES-LV95-S Arc 5 - This is a higher end model of the Panasonic series. The Arc 5 has a whole new design and improvement in ergonomics. The head is better attached to the body and doesn't feel like a separate piece of the shaver.
It comes with a very high tech cleaning station with tons of features. Complete with a beautiful LCD display this shaver is the high end solution to shaving.
