Powerful and Convenient
First I would like to highlight two high points of this electric rotary shaver. During our review the most positive reoccurring mention was the level of power and convenience of this shaver.
The Philips Norelco 9700 is very easy to hold and is very versatile. People really like how good it is at contouring and sticking to the curves of the face. All while not missing a beat and picking up all the hairs. You may be surprised how big of an issue this is for other shavers.
It's also hard to respect these traits without really experiencing it. However, a shaver that sticks to the skin well, doesn't cause irritation, and is extremely comfortable are traits we want in any shaver.
During our Philips Norelco Shaver 9700 review these two traits came up more often so we put them in the forefront of the review.
When to Use Rotary Shavers
When you look at electric shavers you'll notice foil and rotary shavers. A lot of men don't know what makes the difference but think it comes down to a personal preference. While that's not completely wrong there is a time when you should choose rotary over foil.
Take a quick moment and inspect your facial hair. Is it thicker than most, very curly, or do you have very weird growth patterns? If you have these traits then a rotary shaver is your ideal option.
The circular motion of the rotary shaver works better on thicker wild hairs. You'll have a better shaving experience compared to using a foil shaver if you fall in this category.
Unfortunately a lot of men don't know about this and end up using a foil shaver and end up thinking all electric shavers suck. You just need to make the right selection and you'll be very happy with an electric shaver.
Shavers like the Philips Norelco 9700 will save you a ton of time in the mornings. Use it to dry shave and quickly tackle the wild hairs you've got. The 9700 makes it even better due to its power and ultra convenient use.
Philips Norelco 9700 Shaver Review
It's time to get into the complete details of the Philips Norelco 9700. Our goal with the review is to provide blunt and honest information so you're well informed. We don't believe in only giving you the good and not the bad.
We believe you should know the negative aspects of your product even if it's only something small. This way we can be confident you're getting the best and most truthful information in our reviews as iManscape.
We also go by our own price to quality ratio. This is basically our way of making sure a product is actually worth what a company is trying to sell it for. We'll let you know if you're getting the high quality you're paying for or if we believe it should be priced lower.
Either way we want you the person reading this review to take away a complete understanding so you can make an informed decision on your purchase.

Key Traits of Philips 9700 Shaver
We mentioned earlier how convenient this shaver was to use and how powerful it was. Here's some of the other traits which make this shaver stand out.
When we said rotary shavers are good for wild hairs and odd growth patterns this is why. Each of the three shaving heads move in 8 directions for an extremely close shave. Capable of picking up hairs lying flat and growing in any direction.
It'll catch hairs regardless of its length. Even from 1-3 day stubble.
While we don't think the attachments are completely necessary to make this a great shaver they do offer a decent shaving brush. This cleansing brush should be used before shaving to remove dirt and oil and provide a hygienic shave.
The multiple speed settings help you match your skin and hair type. If you're looking for a skin-friendly shave then go with a slow speed. Need a more thorough shave try medium. Haven't shaved in a while then go ahead and give fast a go.
You'll also have a digital display to show you the battery level, if it needs cleaning, low battery light, if the head needs replacing, and travel lock option.
Philips 9700 Mechanical Features
These are the core 8 mechanical features from our Philips Norelco shaver 9700 review. Each of these features come right from the manufacturer but we're going to give you our thoughts on them. We'll let you know what it does and if it's something worth having or just fluff.
Each of the three shaving heads is equipped with the ability to contour. Contouring is even strong on a rotary blade shaver because each head is it's own standalone mini-shaver. Allowing each one of the three to turn and stick to the skin better than a foil shaver.
You're guaranteed to catch more hair in a single pass due to this. Philips claims it helps catch 20% more hairs per pass. Resulting in a closer smoother shave.
The Philips Norelco 9700 has a V-Track Pro precision system. This allows the shaver to shave even the single day growth stubble that most shavers cannot.
The claim is a 30% closer* shave in less strokes. Additionally, the blades self sharpen to help them self maintain and last that much longer.
We've found the comfort setting a favorite during our Philips Norelco Shaver 9700 review. While other shavers also have a speed settings the ones on this shaver tend to actually make a difference in the shave.
With a low, medium, and fast option you'll get a smooth shave if you have sensitive skin, require a thorough shave, or haven't shaved in several days.
Smart Clean System
The smart clean system is a one and done feature after shaving. The stand cleans, lubricates, dries, and chargers your shaver after you're done with it. It takes the hassle out of maintaining an electric shaver.
This system is an alcohol free cleaning station that uses a skin friendly formula instead. No one wants the added headache of having to do all these things by hand. Fortunately, we don't have to!
The digital user interface takes the guessing out of what's going on with your shaver. It displays the battery level, if it needs cleaning, running on low battery, if the head needs replacing, and a convenient travel lock indicator.
What Philips calls AquaTec Technology is just the ability for this shaver to shave while wet shaving. Basically it means you're able to use shaving foam or gel with this shaver. I don't know why they go through the effort of naming it a special technology.
Honestly, all electric shavers should have this capability. I don't see why they need to fluff the idea or concept of it up but either way at least it's able to do it.
Also, something most electric shavers have now is lithium ion batteries. The usage on the Philips Norelco Shaver 9700 review came to around mid-level. You'll get 60 minutes of shave which is 10 minutes more than some other competitors.
You get a full charge in one hour and a quick charge option that takes 5 minutes. If you forget to charge it for any reason the quick charge might come handy in a rushed morning routine.
This shaver does come with 2 attachments. You'll get a cleansing brush which is decent and we recommend using it before every shave. It's helpful to remove dirt and oil off your face before shaving.
The second attachment is a detail trimmer. Nothing special here but it does help line up sideburns or a little facial hair if you've got it. Both attachments are quick pop on and pop off options.
The Biggest Con to Philips Norelco 9700
After doing exhaustive research our Philips Norelco Shaver 9700 review has come across one reoccurring con. This con lies within the head of the shaver.
It appears that some people have experienced the head malfunctioning within the first year of use. The replacement heads are easy to come by but they cost around $50. Not really something anyone would be happy about having to buy in the first year of ownership.
We will say that this isn't a huge major problem. Its popped up here and there so there is definitely an issue but it's not as widespread as you may think. Majority of the other reviews were overwhelming positive.
Other negative remarks were here and there and nothing else that really lined up as a common problem. So, overall that's good news.
Before You Go!
I hope our Philips Norelco Shaver 9700 review helped you make an informed decision before making a purchase. If you've got the thick curly hair I think you'll get a lot of benefit out of owning this rotary shaver.
